However, not every track will be coming to PS3. The songs are all being developed using the Xbox 360′s XNA creation tools and it’s here that all songs will be made available to members of the ‘Creators Club’. Harmonix have  stated that artists have to choose to opt in to having their tracks distributed via PSN, but said they don’t think many wont as “It’s more revenue, right?”. Something which makes a lot of sense. However, this option will be offered to arists at Harmonix’s discretion and, even then, artists will have to do some paperwork to get their song to PS3 players.

Basically, us PS3 owners will have access to the “greatest hits” of the Rock Band Network. Something that isn’t to be sniffed at. At least we’re getting it, unlike Wii owners.

Also announced regarding this new service were demos. Harmonix have said that each RBN track will be available to play as a demo so players can try before they buy. Something that i’ve often thought should be available. For now Harmonix are only offering this for ‘Network’ tracks and don’t have any plans to offer this for all Rock Band DLC. A shame, but they didn’t say it’s never coming, right?

Without factoring in Rock Band Network, Harmonix will have released 500 songs per year since the franchise was launched. The company have also said which artists will be populating the game to reach the big 1K.

Elton John, The White Stripes, Queen, Nirvana, Iggy Pop, Tom Petty, The Raconteurs, Pantera, Talking Heads, Korn, “and more” will all be hitting Rock Band before the close of the year.

Billboard spoke with the band and have confirmed that the new album, “Backspacer”, will be “available on Rock Band the day it comes out”. As an additional bonus, those who purchase the album at Target will get a download code, giving them a few more PJ tracks to add to their Rock Band library. Certainly not a concept that the band, and their fans, are unfamiliar with.

The album will be released on September 20th and will be available on PSN the same day.

MTV Games have announced a new feature for Rock Band. Rock Band Network is a service that will allow bands and record labels to upload their own tracks to Rock Band. Now this is awesome. Take that Guitar Hero music maker!

The service is currently in closed beta and the service will be released on 360 at first, but the service is expected to be released on PS3 and Wii in the future. Apparently, we could see the service as early as August, which certainly sounds cool.

It sounds simple enough too. Songs submitted will then be handed to “a community of Harmonix-trained freelance game developers” who will then handle the implementation of music into the game. Alternatively those using the service could hire their own developers to do all the work in house. I think this would be a lesser used option though. This also mans bands will be able to control note chartng, something that hasn’t been seen before.

This will also help Harmonix as it will allow them to add new music to the Rock Band music store a lot faster. Something that helps both the player and the developer. A good thing indeed.

Well I love this idea. I’d love to see some of the UK’s unsigned talent in Rock Band as well as a few bigger guys. I think IGN’s Deamon Hatfield and Robert Ashley of ‘A Life Well Wasted’ fame will be intrigued by this.

It’s an amazing week in Rock Band this week. Well, that is if you like Kings Of Leon as much as myself and Ad’s do. In fact, the only acts i’d want in Rock Band more would probably be The Smiths or Morrissey (if you know me, that’s saying something). Besides Kings Of Leon, Lush, Rise Against and Rancid also make appearances. PSP owners also get some Grateful Dead and Thin Liy for use in Rock Band Unplugged.

After a week of some pretty bad DLC (yes, I listened to the Green Day stuff and it’s not good) Harmonix have gotten back to releasing music from the obscure. I have heard of Judas Priest, but the other two bands, pretty obscure if you ask me.

Paul McCartney played a set at this years Coachella festival and brought with him a nice video backing band.

The Coachella set played host to the first ever footage of The Beatles: Rock Band and, although the quality isn’t the best, it looks pretty cool. There does seem to be some subtle differences in the character models and, whilst it’s hard to make out who’s who, you can make a out Lennon and McCartney fairly easily.
