Sony Announce FirstPlay

This morning SCEE officially announced FirstPlay for ThePlayStatioNetwork. The new show sounds like it won’t be too dissimilar to Qore in the US and has been bred out of a deal between Sony Europe and Future Publishing.

A 3 month subscription (yes, subscrption) to the service will run you £8.99 or you could just pick and choose episodes for 99p each. Despite this, users are still going to be stuck watching advertisements. TheSixthAxis were quick to point out that there’ll be “only” six slots for advertising. I’m sorry, but I think Sony should’ve learnt from Qore by now.

Vice President of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, Ray Maguire had this to say about the new venture:

It becomes critical that we’re offering gamers the very best content and services through this channel. FirstPlay is a great example of this. Future has an outstanding track record in producing content for gamers that is informed, impartial, relevant and with the right production values, so we see them as a natural partner to work with as we move to on-console media development.

You can watch a trailer for the new service at the FirstPlay website.
