Review: Interpol: The Trail Of Dr. Chaos
Oh Tik, how you’ve disappointed me. Granted, this was a port of an XBLA game that came out a while back but still, Interpol is not a game I, or many others, will enjoy.
You play a secret agent forced to come off your hols as Dr. Chaos and his goons have been wreaking havoc around the world. Your goal: to track him down. Sounds fun, right? Well, I’m afraid it’s not. Iterpol is a seek and find game where you’re set the task of finding certain objects in moderately large images in order to track down the, generically named, evil doer. You’re given a list of items to find within the image and a number of hints to help you out should you get stuck. You can’t just click around the image and hope for the best though. You’ve got a time limit and aimlessly clicking things will decrease said time. So, basically, the game is all about pointing at things and clicking on them and, well, that’s all there is to it. I didn’t find many of the puzzles a challenge, it was only shoddy presentation that really kept me stumped.
The images you’re meant to find the items in are pretty terrible. They really aren’t all that clear and I often found myself clicking on one thing instead of what I wanted or simply not realising what something was. Also, I found that items repeated in some sections, but the game wanted me to find a specific object, even if something else fit the bill. It seemed like Dr. Chaos liked leaving multiple maps, knives and umbrellas all over the place.
The story is plucked straight from a B-movie and I think I would’ve liked that, had the game been any good. You see, in the right context a cheesy plot can be funny and add to the experience, here it seems dumb. The game can be completed in a few hours and isn’t all that fun. Using the controller to point and click doesn’t really work all that well. I mean, it’s functional, but I think i’d have rather used a mouse.
There is a multiplayer portion to the game that really isn’t necessary. Sure it can be fun for a few minutes, but it’s nothing that you’ll want to keep coming back to.
Overall, I found Interpol: The Trail Of Dr. Chaos an experience that isn’t really worth having. It definitely has it’s good points and the hidden objects in each level add an exra bit of an incentive. I just feel that this is a genre that really doesn’t belong on a console. The art was pretty shoddy and the game as a whole really short. I understand what Tik have tried to do here, they just haven’t pulled it off all that well.

I brought this game and it is wonderful, it keeps you hooked in finding everything you need to move on to the next board. Me and a few friends enjoy playing it, give it another try you will like it.
