PSN Is Down, Here Come The Errors [Update]
Looks like Sony have ‘screwed up’ yet again. The PlayStation Network is down which means no online play. Ok, fine. People can do without their fix of Modern Warfare 2 for one night can’t they? The thing is, that’s not the only problem.
There’s a whole host of problems people are having that seem to be related to the 8001050F error code. Not only is this causing problems with the PS3′s online connectivity, but it’s not allowing people to play games like Heavy Rain and even corrupting trophy data (it looks like my original God Of War trophies may have bitten the dust). There’s even a bit of a Y2K feel about the whole thing. Some PS3 ‘phat’ users are discovering that the date on their machine has been reset to sometime in 1999. The worst part about it is that this is even happening to users who’ve not been using Sony’s online service. A problem in the firmware? Most definitely.
Sony don’t know the exact cause of the problem, but we’ve been informed that they’re “looking into it”. Hopefully something will be fixed soon and us PS3 owners will be able to get back to our games. I mean, if we don’t track down ‘Mr. Foldy Paper’ (thanks, Ian) who else will?
As always, we’ll keep you up to date with news as we get it.
Update - So we’ve been sitting it out for a good while now and still there’s no fix. Trophy-supported games still can’t be played. At this point it’s pretty obvious that this is a firmware issue and not something to do with the PS3′s connection to the internet. Develop are also reporting that it’s not just retail consoles and that debug systems are being affected too. This is stopping developers from, well, developing. Looks like we’ll have to push Sony a little more. In other news, Happy New Year people! (yes, I saw it on Joystiq too).

I found out that it’s still possible to play games that don’t have trophies. So COD4, the first Assassin’s Creed, Army of TWO, MGS4, all can still be played.

I almost thought my ps3 was taking a crap on me like the week before FFXIII came out. I would of been mad. I can live without online for a few days..probably for the best anyway. I hope this isn’t some kind of virus. My friend said this was actually a VERY BIG problem on psn. I have another friend that says he can log into psn no sweat so I don’t know whats going on. Maybe it hasn’t hit his playstation yet but he lives in the dorm right across the street from me.

Actually I guess this problem is only happening to people who have the fat ps3′s..the slim ones still work fine. I hope this problem doesn’t take too terribly long to fix.

I Dont believe this, S***!!! i’ve allways been a ps-fan and I still think the ps3 is the greatest gaming device invented ever, but error 8001050F is exactly the sort of thing that would make me throw away gaming and take up nitting instead… what really makes me angry not to mention disappointed, is that trophies is a secondary thing, the primary thing being able to play games. Sony should have thought of that, and made sure that their games weren’t dependent on trophy support. furthermore, and i dont know if it’s just me, but they haven’t posted any notices telling their customers about this error, so people sit at home trying to restore their accounts, ps3′s, connections and their trophylists in vain… I myself, lost all trophy information for AC2 and RE5, two games in which I just happened to have obtained Platinum Trophies…
If anybody hears any news about this error. please let us know

I couldn’t play COD4 Modern Warfare 2 as well. I formatted my PS3 thinking it crashed so I feel your pain Emmanuel. Next time I’ll wait before I panic. Lesson learned.

HAHA I love when the big names screw up makes for interesting reactions from their costumers. What I don’t get is why this fault/issue wasn’t seen earlier and fixed; they aren’t paying attention are they?

i think sony needs to get its act together and start letting the comunity ahead of time know when they r gonna fix these problems. u know i get up in the morning ready to play Home and i get this Crap Error code…so i call around to see if anyone elese is expirincing this problem jus so i dont start restoring my data and screwing my Ps3 all to hell like i hear people r doing..iv had the original 60 gig since it came out and it runs smooth…but the past few months with all these error codes hitting my system is it gonna b the end to my beloved 60 gig ps3….we will see “SONY” ….. LETS HOPE NOT

hello just want to suggest to Sony that if this problem is not as fast as possible will be forced to give us the money back or make new consoles for us ps3 users we are addicted to gambling and because of their system are having trouble playing them … I hope to have the support of users who complete this post ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, would do if he spent a month to fix the system

Mannnnnnnnn! diz sh!t is crazy,tell me why i got too buy my marvel vs capcom all over again as if i never paid for it.And tell my why there is a fucking question mark beside my internet and trophy’s.And just to add to the problem i cant even play single player mw2 it wont let me get that far its cut’s off and take me back to my menu.And i just notice that my mw2 and waw doesnt show how much i’ve completed the game.Then two of my theme’s had data corruption beside it what’s up wit dat,and i talk all dis shit about xbox,mannnnnnn please
