PS3 Firmware 3.42 Now Available

It’s that time again, there’s yet another firmware update for the PS3.

Firmware 3.42 is mandatory and the BBC have confirmed that this update blocks the use of PSJailbreak and PSGroove software and devices:

“Since this is an overall security related issue, we will not be providing further commentary to this case,” a Sony representative said. “But as we always have, we will continue to take necessary actions to both hardware and software to protect the intellectual content provided on the PlayStation 3.”

It’s been just more than a month since the last two firmware updates, but this is obviously a situation Sony needed to rectify quickly.
