Today SEGA officially revealed what exactly ‘Project Needlemouse’ is. Of course, we knew it would star everyone’s favourite blurry, blue hedgehog. What we didn’t know is in what context he’d appear next. Well, it looks like Sonic Team, SEGA or whoever makes these kind of decisions has come to their senses. Sonic’s next outing (besides ‘All Star Racing’) will be Sonic The Hedgehog 4.
The game is a direct sequel of Sonic 3 and, after all these years, we’ll finally get to play as Sonic in 2D again. The new game will be released this year on PSN, XBLA and WiiWare and is a much welcomed change in direction. Seriously, who thought a Were-hog would be a good idea?
However, this take on Sonic isn’t as simple as it could’ve been. The game will be released episodically. This seems like a strange idea, but I’m willing to give SEGA the benefit of the doubt if they pull off a good Sonic game after all these years.

I think Sega has finally outdone themselves this time around, so, it’s worth the wait! Sonic is finally back! And I still love the good old 2D Sonics, who wouldn’t, right?
