Preview: God Of War III
Listeners of the ‘Across The Pond’ podcast (and maybe some readers. I think I may have mentioned this) will know that, as impossible as it sounds, before playing this I hadn’t yet to played a home console version of God Of War. However, I have now officially jumped on the hype train and couldn’t wait to finally get my hands on God Of War 3. I now feel a tad saddened that I hadn’t played the first two when they were released.
I got my hands on the playable demo from this year’s E3, so you’ll have probably seen it and heard a lot about it before. Still, I will continue. The first thing I noticed, is that the game is beautiful. It might be the, all too familiar, shades of grey and brown with a smattering of red here and there, but it really does look good. Obviously, I don’t have a real frame of reference for how Ancient Greece should look, but this seemed about right.
I didn’t get to look at the environments for too long as I was soon fending off hordes of bad guys in an attempt to stop them slaughtering innocent people. The combat seemed really fluid and, although I was just button bashing, I never felt like I was doing anything wrong. Each action looked really good and I soon got used to pulling off stupidly complex moves. I think that’s one of the game’s strength’s actually, you’re inputs might be random but you can pull off some superb combos.]
My knowledge of God Of War as a franchise is pretty brief, but what I do know is that it’s known for it’s massive quick time event fights. Like everything else, these are awesome. However, they’re certainly not for the faint hearted. Cutting the snake-tail off a Minotaur and ripping off the head of a guy in a floating chariot are just too examples of how gory this game can get. However, I wouldn’t consider it out of context. After all, you’re playing a game called God Of War.
My brief time with God Of War 3 has got me even more excited than before about Kratos new adventure. I think it’s time I pre-ordered the God Of War Collection, don’t you?
