Is This A PSP2 Dev Kit?
The internet sure thinks so! VG247 posted an image, albeit a blurry one, of a supposed PSP2 development prototype. The images show that Sony’s new handheld could have a similar form factor to that of the PSPGo. Not only that, but the device has two cameras (front & back), twin tumbsticks, a trackpad, a high-def display and the, all important, PlayStation button layout.
The site has noted that this “isn’t the console’s final form factor”. A source has confirmed this, saying that Sony has now replaced this model with a non-sliding version. The rumored overheating problem is apparently the design was rectified. So even if the device is real, it doesn’t look like this any more. Some still aren’t conviced. Joystiq pointed out that the “segmented PlayStation d-pad” is nowhere to be found. Something that’s certainly food for thought. However, a development source close to IGN has confirmed the legitimacy of the images.
So what does this mean then? Well, this could be a prototype PSP2. On the other hand, it might not be; meaning VG247 and IGN’s sources are wrong. But there’s no smoke without fire right?
