Firmware 3.0 Now Available
Those of you who didn’t wait until around 4am (GMT) to catch this update will be glad to know that Firmware 3.0, for the PlayStation 3, is now available. The new update adds a few new, cool features that I think most PS3 owners will embrace.
The first thing you’ll notice is the new start up screen followed by the, more animated, XMB. Finally, the ‘What’s New’ section (pictured above) has been added alongside a bunch of other cool stuff to excite PS3 owners. However, there is a few problems i’ve found.
Obviously, I can’t review a free firmware update, but the first thing that struck me as odd is the size of the text and icons. My TV is pretty small so the icons look huge on the screen and, I think, the grey boxes in the friends list could be better.
Other than that this update is cool, but it needs to be refined a little.

I want to rollback to the previous firmware but would lose my connection to PSN. I really, really do not like the font size and the hideous friends list. Judging from the comments on both Playstation Blogs I’m not the only one who thinks this.
Hopefully 3.01 will be released soon with fixes as this is not acceptable. I’m also not keen on all the advertisments, my XMB once looked slick but now looks like Steam or Vidzone.
