It was first reported yesterday that the service would be coming after an advert was leaked onto YouTube. It was swiftly pulled down. The application istelf seems to be just what we hoped it would be. Users can search and stream movies via the XMB and do a whole host of other things to make the user experience even better. The question is: What does this mean for Sony’s own movie store?

Warner Bros have dated the Blu-Ray release of the Watchmen: Directors Cut.

The graphic novel turned movie will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray on July 28th and will feature almost 30mins of extra movie footage. In addition to the new, 190 minute, cut this release will feature a bunch of extras, two of which will be Blu-Ray exclusive, and a load of other stuff that will keep Watchmen fans, like me, happy.

It has been announced that, after years of waiting, the Lord Of The Rings trilogy will be coming to blu-ray.

According to Amazon.com the seven disc set will feature all of the theatrical versions of the trilogy. Nothing has been said about the extended editions of the films, so it looks like fans are going to have to wait or double dip on the set.

Amazon is currentluy giving a price of $99.98, but i’d expect this to be highter at other retailers. There’s no word on a release date, but I think we can expect them before christmas.

Reports are coming in that a new, £299, PS3 bundle is hitting shelves (Europe only at the time of writing). It was thought that Sony might release a blu-ray only bundle before the Christmas period, but with the ammount of bundles currently on shelves it seemed unlikely. The new bundles contain the following:

• 80GB PS3 Console
• 1 x DualShock 3 Controller
• 1x Blu-Ray Remote
• 1x Blu-Ray Movie (I Am Legend/300)

I assume retailers will be offering up their own adaptations of this bundle too. It dosen’t sound like a bad deal for someone who just wants a PS3 for it’s movie playing capabilities. It seems Sony are making a big push for the Christmas period, but with the increasing credit crisis, the question is… will it work?

In a bit of blu-ray movie news, IGN have picked up on a comment made by a certain Peter Jackson that,

“We are working on a Blu-ray version of the LOTR trilogy with Warner Bros at the moment, not sure when it is due for release. It certainly won’t be this year.”

So next question for fans no doubt will be yes but which versions of the films?  If I was to be cynical for a moment I would expect the theatrical versions first, with the extended full monty versions at a later date, probably just in time for Christmas.

None gaming related thing now but last night I got one hell of a deal. Saw on HotUKDeals that Play.com had the ‘Pirates Of The Carribean’ trilogy on blu-ray for £10.99 so pre-ordered two. Just checked this mornin’ and Play have bumped the price to £47.99 and they seem to be honoring the price I ordered at. Very nice deal indeed. You gotta love misprices
