Modern Warfare 2 is less recognisable without the ‘Call Of Duty’ brand on it. Les Dennis references aside I completely agree.
I always said that dropping the COD brand was one of the worst decisions Activision made and I feel that they might see a drop in sales because of it. I don’t know what Activision were thinking dropping the name in favor of, what used to be, a subtitle. It seems that those who take surveys thought this as well. Participants found that the change in name was confusing. According to Gamasutra, 50% fewer people knew about the game’s existence.
Either way I still think the game will sell well, but I suspect that if the game doesn’t do what Activision/Infinity Ward want it to then the name will definitely be one of the excuses.
We’ll have to wait until November to find out won’t we. I can’t wait.
